A world of possibilities, but also a world of technological challenges arises with the 60GHz band. First of all, such a huge carrier frequency—an order of magnitude higher than current standards—imposes a lot of hazards to the analog and antenna designers.

Moreover, when you aim at developing single-chip 60GHz radios, using silicon CMOS technology, the technological challenge is even greater. The 45nm technology node for CMOS is required to realize these radios but only research centers have ready access to these advanced technology nodes can get insight into the analog characteristics of the 45nm transistors.

A second challenge is the huge bandwidth of 7GHz at which the 60GHz radios have to work (from 57 to 64GHz). This means the operating frequencies can vary about 15% as compared to only 3% for Wi-Fi (from 2.4 to 2.485). This is especially hard for the front-end, synthesizer and antenna design.

Thirdly, the analog-to-digital converters and digital-to-analog converters have to operate at a high sample rate of about 4Gsamples/sec at a resolution of 5 to 6 bit. Such characteristics are difficult to realize in CMOS, especially with reasonable power consumption. This high sample rate is also challenging for the digital processing unit of the radio. Several good ultra-low-power ADCs were presented at ISSCC2008.

A fourth problem with 60GHz radios is the low signal to noise ratio (SNR). The reason for this is twofold: the high carrier frequency implies a low receive power; and, a high bandwidth (2GHz for 60GHz communication) contributes to a high noise level at the receiver side; hence, the system works at low SNR.

To circumvent this phenomenon, beam-forming techniques both at the receiver and transmitter sides are applied for 60GHz communications. Intelligent beam forming is achieved by using multiple antenna paths combined with programmable phase shifters.

For very demanding applications in terms of data rate, larger antenna arrays are needed. Another consideration is that beam forming is more important for plugged applications (e.g. wireless HDMI) than for nomadic applications (video kiosk) since in the latter case, part of the problem can be solved by bringing the portable device closer to the video kiosk.

And finally, the fifth challenge with 60GHz communications is that designers have to be aware of the fact that the standard will incorporate three physical (PHY) layers: one single-carrier modulation with frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE) and two OFDM variants."

Standardization of Ultra-bandwidth Communication

UWB本来将通过IEEE802.15 WG进行其标准化工作,各方在IEEE通过PAR,即15.3a TG的成立许可。但究竟是使用Multi-Band OFDM还是DS UWB让各参与者渐行渐远。

一方是Multi-Band OFDM的支持者,组成了WiMedia[http://www.wimedia.org/]联盟,将近乎完整的规范已提案
[http://www.wimedia.org/imwp/idms/popups /pop_download.asp?ContentID=6516]的形式投给了IEEE802.15.3a。WiMedia的主要支持者是TI、 Intel这样的老牌芯片厂商,同时也有很多初创的小企业。

另一方则是DS UWB的支持者,组成了UWB Forum,开始与WiMedia竞争。主要players是Motorola,Freescale。Freescale也是有备而来,准备使用其的 110Mbit/s技术,以推广其XS110芯片组。其实很多学术界的人都是支持直序或脉冲方式的高速通信的,UFL的Dongliang Duan的老板就是做脉冲的。个人分析,因为大家觉得最初的无线通信方式(马可尼的电报系统)就是脉冲方式的,在使用波形调制这么多年后,从哲学的角度来说,技术是该进行一次轮回的。当然,脉冲方式是有很多实质性好处的,应该较MB-OFDM简单,使得成本更低。代价是,在这个满是波形调制的现有社会中,要使用脉冲而不让干扰波及到现有系统,是很困难的。

在IEEE Member Voting中,双方势均力敌,不可开交。于是双方决定放弃在IEEE的标准化路程,通过走向市场的de facto事实标准来竞争,让用户来决定谁是赢家。另一方面,缺少一致也被认为是技术和市场均还未成熟,进行标准化尚早,也支持了15.3a的流产。

按传闻[http://www.handheld.eet-china.com /ART_8800414008_4000001_NT_4072ae1d.HTM],2006年4月,Freescale计划退出UWB Forum,主要厌倦了游说工作,认为太多肮脏政治超过了技术本身。Motorola是Freescale的兄长,自然也是保持一致地推出了。这样,UWB Forum元气大伤,只剩Pulse-Link高举大旗死扛。按照Wikipedia的描述,如今的UWB Forum已名存实亡。不过有趣的是当年MultiBand OFDM Alliance Special Interest Group (MBOA-SIG)的域名[multibandofdm.org]也已易主。

WiMedia则一番风顺,其输出标准于2005年被ECMA(欧洲计算机制造商协会)采纳为规范,ECMA-368[http://www.ecma- international.org/publications/standards/Ecma-368.htm]和ECMA-369[http: //www.ecma-international.org/publications/standards/Ecma-369.htm]。

ETSI(欧洲通信标准学会)采纳了ECMA的规范。

2007年ISO(国际标准组织)也采纳了ECMA的规范,作为ISO/IEC 26907:2007和ISO/IEC 26908:2007[http://standards.iso.org/ittf/PubliclyAvailableStandards /index.html]。

2009年1月,WiMedia宣称中国信产部已批准MB-OFDM在中国的使用并准许其使用频谱。不过中国未必安心使用国外标准,众多国内芯片企业虎视眈眈。至少在DVB领域,中国就算是抄,也得抄出个自己的标准来。不过在DVB时代,中国是采纳了南北两套技术的。实验室邻座的小弟在徒手研究UWB信道建模,老板也开始过问起UWB标准,不知道是否是UWB中国大雨前的乌云。

WiMedia的思路倒是很先进的,同IEEE802.16的Service-Specific Convergent Sub-Layer一样,WiMedia在上层支持多种payload的承载,自身以负责PHY传输技术为主,这样厂商甚至可以在WiMedia上架设私有的MAC协议。WiMedia的2008版也将Interference Avoidance纳入其设计考虑,这样在世界各地频谱使用不同的情况下推广要容易得多。

这些相似的重要战略步伐当然还是因为他们背后是同一批 Sophisticated 的棋手。

我们这帮做无线的就等着啥时候自己在家看电视时只用接电源线就了事,忽略信号线的时代了!

  原指爬过越过围墙之类的肢体行为。现指通过各种代理服务器,突破限制,浏览或登录某些网站。网站整顿开始,尤其绿坝出来以后,该名词被网民不断使用,而被应用的软件则称为“翻墙软件”。其实,广义来说,所有试图突破限制的行为都可以称作“翻墙”。

  例句:昨晚翻墙去网吧,到了网吧,我又翻墙才看到自己喜欢的网站。
 
  医院为防止病人出逃外设100道,两精神病患者仍欲逃出医院。

  于是,等到夜黑时刻,两人开始努力翻墙。至第30道墙下,“累了么?”“不累。”于是二人继续向外翻。至第60道墙下,“你累了么?”“不累。”于是二人继续向外翻,至第90道墙下,“你累了么? ”“累了。”“那好,我们翻回去吧。” 于是,他们又吭哧吭哧往回翻。

  虽然是精神病患者,虽然最后没能成功,但这二位却体现着和所有人相通的点,那就是希望逃脱禁锢,向往墙外的自由自在。

  墙很多,无论是为了保障自身安全的墙,还是用于禁闭他人的墙,其基本功能是一样的,既是用于隔离。将一个空间和另一个空间隔离,使得人们无法在两处自由地来回。

  但人类追求自在的本性是与生俱来的。所以,自从有了墙这种形态,也就有了翻墙这种行为。翻越城墙进攻敌人,翻越院墙偷取财物,翻墙脱身,翻墙私会等等。也就是说,只要有人筑墙,必然有人翻墙,只要有人设置限制,就必然有人会去尝试突破。其实,广义来说,所有试图突破各种限制的行为都是一种翻墙行为。

  以前在学校的时候,我们经常“翻墙”去外面的小酒馆畅谈或是痛哭,以前校内的网络无法访问国外网站,我们就利用各种代理服务器“翻墙”达到自己的目的。前一个墙,翻越的是具体的用石头水泥砌的固体,后面那个要翻的则是网络上所设置的访问限制。

  自从去年网络开始整顿以来,许多网站因为自身内容的缘故,无法正常登录。关于翻墙的言论就开始在网络世界里满天飞,求翻墙软件的帖子到处都是,而在朋友之间也会开始互相推荐各类翻墙软件。这些使用翻墙软件的人们,正是试图使用代理访问的方式去浏览自己想看而又被屏蔽的网站。

  这些网站可能低俗,可能有不良内容。无论如何,屏蔽并没能完全阻止部分固执的网民。设定的限制只会促使他们用类似宵小的方式去达到自己的目的。

  最近,绿坝又被提上日程,据说会限制更多的不良网站浏览。等于又是给网民设置了多道墙,或许初衷是好的,或许保护了部分没有分辨能力的人。但是,有的墙真的就是用来翻越的,限制越多,人们翻越的欲望就越强。

We are not yet aware of the environment problem

The fact is you have to know how to deal with flocks to let them understand what you know. They do thing in their way because they probably do not know the consequence, the environmental consequence. The physical world is so physical that every single destruction counts, while our human world is so subjective that we just ignore every piece of facts.

Do we have to show off military weapons on national celebration day?

China is so wrong on showing off its military force on nation's anniversary day. Decades ago we did this for ambitions that we are not afraid of any invaders. But now, we are strong enough and it is no longer necessary. I hope Chinese won't play this way in next decade.


Obviously, the author has never been to China and just imagined it is a highly militarised country. And it is clear he has no idea about China's history. Even Kuomingtang affirms Taiwan and China mainland are parts of one single country.

It is quite right that Chinese government treats Han and other ethnic people unfairly, since it give more right to the minor ethnic people.

But American consumes much more energy than Chinese and will use up the energy all over the world. Chinese is just using the energy for basic needs while American use it for luxury life. You will know about it if you have been to these two countries.
